RED RACER

I don't smoke, but my husband does (every since he was 18). I understand how hard it is 2 quit smoking. My dad smoked every since he was 6 & had a tracheotomy done & still didn't quit smoking. My husband has tried Chantix & while it didn't get him 2 totally quit he has started smoking less.

This September 5th was my first year of quitting smoking, I started out on the patch but after a few weeks I was finding it hard to break the hand to mouth habit, so for me I stopped using the patches , and went to the electric cigarette, i found i was able to cut way down and finally was able to stop completely.

    HI,

You're right, it is not easy to quit smoking. I have read that nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs known to humankind.

There are some great treatments available, including Chantix, but also Welbutrin, the nicotine patch, nicotine gum, as well as various kinds of behavior modification programs and support groups.

I have found that each person kind of finds his or her own way to success, the approach hat works best for them. But I have also found that some type of medication or the patch, in conjunction with a support group, can be a good approach.

You might check in with your local office of the American Cancer Society and see what resources they might have. Also, some states have a hot line that you can call to request help in quitting smoking

I know you are concerned about your husband. Hopefully, you can give him lots of gentle support and encouragement.

    Stay in touch!

    Gary
